Proper Pronunciation

Last week I did a post asking you a few questions about how you do certain things and I found your answers pretty interesting compared to my responses.

Today I would love your input again, but with a different spin.  I have compiled a list of 10 words that I have heard different pronunciations for.  I am asking you to tell me which pronunciation you use.  And when you're done you can add your own word(s) that I didn't include in the comment section.

This kind of reminds me of the Mad Gab game I had you play awhile back.  So start talking to yourself again because you'll need to sound these out.  Below is the link that will take you to the survey.  Have fun.  I can't wait to see your responses.

The ever important phone book.

What do they call the age that we live in right now?  The information technology age?

To me that signifies our reliance on the mighty computer and the world wide web.  We have so much information right at our finger tips with the click of a mouse.

If that is the case, why in the world do they continue to mass produce and mass distribute thick productions of a phone book?  This I truly do not understand.

It seems like every month a new book is delivered to my door.  And it's not just one company - there are several that print and deliver their own versions.  It is madness.

So what do I do with my collection of white and yellow pages?  It's not like I'd actually use them for their intended purpose.  I give them to my kids to play with - makes perfect sense, no?

They make great booster seats at the kitchen table and wonderful step stools to reach the candy that mom put way up high.  They are also fun to stack up like hurdles and incorporate them into an obstacle course through the house.  If you angle them just the right way and get a good running start they make fantastic indoor surf boards across the carpet.  You can also line them up for a game of hopscotch or leapfrog.

But in the end, where they really belong are in the recycle bin.  Sorry kids, the fun is over.  Mommy had to recycle your toys.

But don't fret, I am sure a new delivery is getting ready to hit our doorstep any time.

(And yes, those are the majority of the phone books that have been delivered to our house in the past 6 months.)

Play time and how to

There are so many fun things that we can do with our kids that don't cost a cent.  All that is required of you is your time and effort.  The end result is well spent time invested with your children that they will remember for a lifetime.  So hop to it and start making memories.  Let me help by inspiring you with a few ideas:

1) Make and decorate paper airplanes.  If you don't know how, don't feel bad.  I found a great website to help you step by step.  My boys love to fly their airplanes from the upstairs down to the main floor.

2) Make your own play-dough.  It's easy and you can have your kids help create it and then play with it.

3) Make something grow together.  This is a perfect time to get seed packets at stores since they are bringing out all the spring items right about now.   I love to see the excitement on my kids faces when they see the seeds grow into something new.  Ideas can include, marigolds (which if you put in a clear plastic cup towards the edges you can see the roots grow), zinnias, sunflowers, etc.

4) Get outside in the snow and build a snowman or snow fort/igloo.  And if you live somewhere that doesn't have snow (I envy you right about now!) then make an indoor fort with lots of pillows and blankets.

5)  Have an indoor scavenger hunt.  These are always loads of fun.

I hope I have inspired you to get up and have some fun even when the weather begs to differ.  Kids are only little once so make the most of the time you have with them and have some fun!

Game time!

I love to play games whether it be with my kids or with my family.  One of my favorite games has to be Mad Gab.  You have to solve word puzzles which consist of smaller words put together.  When you read it aloud you have to try to sound out the phrase.  It's a brilliant idea really and it can be played by yourself, with as little as two people, or as a whole group.

Today I thought it would be fun to play my blog version of Mad Gab.  Read through the following phrases and post your answers in the comments section.  I will post the correct answers in the next few days.  Good luck, have fun and don't forget it really helps to say the words out loud. (And make sure if people are around they know what you're doing otherwise you'll sound like a complete idiot - just a warning.)

1) Duke Hum Mere Off Hen

2) Wide Hidden Chews Haze Hoe

3) Thumb Worth Hum Hairier
